As The Sun Sets: Each individual voice is dead in this silence

05/01/09  ||  Daemonomania

Uh oh, the ancient and archaic proto-metalcore band review of doom returns! Run and shit yourself in fear! The little turds are dropping out of your pant legs, and by their trail I can track you down and force you to read. READ, damn you! So why am I writing ANOTHER one of these worthless contributions? The reason I’m partial to the boys who were in (ASSH)ATSS is that they’re from the great state of Rhode Island. The fertile land from which I sprung, 38-inch wifepleaser at the ready. I still remember the good old days of working at a state beach tollbooth and cranking up “Each individual…” to drown the moronic complaints of Connecticut residents.

If I were to describe their style, I’d say it is again a bit of Converge, but mixed more with a black/grind vibe. The vocalist has one hell of a horrific high-pitched rasp that reminds me of a more vitriolic James Malone (Arsis), and the rest of the band switches between fast melodic tremolo riffs, nasty breakdowns, and oddly timed noodling. I can almost see the drool pooling on your keyboard. Easy, tiger. And most of ‘em went on to become a mathcore band called Daughters. Put that boner back in your pants!

The band kicks a lot of ass, and maintains a spookily discordant vibe with short bursts of weirdness like “From this day forward,” to mid-length ball-stompers including album highlight “Such words were upon the tongues of demons,” right on through to the mammoth closer “Everything.”

Throw on an intro sampled from Jacob’s Ladder and a humorous take on the Gremlins theme at the end. You’ve got an album, baby, but since the band is quite defunct, and the label this was put out on went the way of Enron, good luck locating it. If you ask me, I’ll burn you a copy. Lord (K) knows how I’ll manage the sudden influx of requests.

So yep, you’ve just read about an album you couldn’t find even if you wanted to. No official website, no real band member names and duties, no nothing. Thank me later. And grab yourself a few sandwich bags to clean up all that poop you dribbled out during your terrified flight for freedom. It’s unsanitary to just leave it sitting around.

7 trails of brown stinky tears out of 10.
